Rom.13:12] The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
[13] Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
[14] But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
The word “honest” today is often used to describe someone who could be ‘trustworthy,’ and seen as of ‘good reputation’ by those who trust him. There are those who have received the ‘medal of honor,’ and this is because of their act of heroism to risk their lives for the lives of others. But in God’s Word, those who are walking “honest,” are those who also are of “honor” in the sight of God, and they are not just being ‘of honor’ for a moment in time, and then they return to their ‘regular lives,’ but those “faithful” Saints are operating upon a renewed mind, they understand the things that be of God, and God views the faithful as “honest,” and godly in His sight.
Rom.12:16] Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
[17] Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
And furthermore, the mind of the faithful son and daughter becomes transformed by our Father’s Word, he knows the “things” which are “good” in His Father’s sight, this is also what Paul teaches in Romans chapter 12:9 when he says, “let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.” And the glory of our being ‘honored’ in the sight of God at all times, and throughout eternity is far more exceeding than someone being honored with a medal and at certain times of the year. And this is what we are taught in 2nd Corinthians 4:17, “for our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” And we are counted with honor when we are doing as Philippians chapter 4 says, which is we are to always “think on” the things that are of God.
2Cor.8:21] Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
2Cor.13:7] Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.
Moreover, being an “honest” man in our Father’s sight and according to His Word, we will “provide things honest” when evil is done unto us, instead of walking as this world, and as they are educated by this world to render “evil for evil.” And being honest is a vital element to godliness, the Lord Jesus Christ also operated upon this ‘element’ of selflessness. And we are privileged to “walk honestly,” “provide things honest,” and “think” on things that are honest, this is the mechanics of godliness. And just as parents are proud of their children when they are on the ‘honor roll,’ or if their child is awarded with the ‘medal of honor,’ our Father is well pleased to see sons and daughters walking as His Son in whom He was well pleased.
Phil.4:8] Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
[9] Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Finally, our Father is ‘honored’ by His sons and daughters walking honestly as in the Day, and this is not by what this world teaches is holy and acceptable unto God, ad what is that “good and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” But He desires, and ‘accepts’ the “service” of those who walk as the Spiritual minded Saint, and as the faithful who “prove” on a daily basis what is God’s “good,” and knows what is “acceptable” based upon what His Word says, and what is “perfect,” according to His will. The son and daughter who ‘serves’ according to His will, not only receives honor and reward at the Judgement seat of Christ but are of honor in His sight here among the darkness of this world. And he is not as those who receive a ‘medal of honor,’ but as “sons and daughter” who are viewed as holy in His sight, and not “conformed to this world,” but as in honor being “conformed to the Image of His Son.”
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
