About that Fire Chief Who Died

When shots rang out last Saturday night at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, a fire chief by the name of Corey Comperatore threw his wife and daughter to the ground. He shielded them with his body.

He then took a bullet and died for his family.

His daughter would write, “He was the best dad a girl could ever ask for. My sister and I never needed for anything. You call, he would answer, and he would do whatever it is you needed, and if he didn’t know how he would figure out how. He could talk and make friends with anyone, which he was doing all day yesterday and loved every minute of it. He was a man of God, loved Jesus fiercely, and also looked after our church and our members as family.”

So Corey was a believer. He was also a husband and a father. And last Saturday night, he made himself a human shield to save his family. He willingly took that bullet and died for the people he loved. His wife and daughter had submitted to his Godly leadership, and he gave his life to save the ones he loved.

Did you catch that? His family submitted to his Godly leadership, and they were saved by his life – just like us and Christ.

How can we not think of Eph 5:25, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it? The depths of love we men are to show our families should be as great as the love Christ Himself showed all of us when He died for our sins on the cross. Paul is telling us men that nothing less than a love so great that you are willing to give your life for others – only a love this great can meet God’s standard for how much a husband should love his wife and his family. Only a love this great can satisfy God’s will for your life as a husband and a father. We are to love with the same depth that Christ loved us on the cross, which is the greatest love that can be found in the world.

Joh 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
