Carried About With Every Wind Of Doctrine

Eph.4:12] For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

[13] Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

[14] That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Our Father desires that His “sons and daughters” be “led by,” and “walk in,” and be “filled with the Spirit” of the Word of God. And it is the “knowledge of the Son of God” that the Saints are ‘perfected’ by. And when Paul says in the verses above, “and carried about with every wind of doctrine,” he is saying that the Saint who is not perfected will be an easy target for the men of this world to lead them captive. But not just lead them captive, but toss them to and fro at their will by different doctrines that are contrary to the doctrine which is according to godliness. And as we can see Paul say, “and that we be no more children,” there are those in Christ who desire to grow in the doctrine of the knowledge of the son of God, this is what we see Paul teaching unto the saints, but some Saints will not desire to be “no more children” doctrinally, but would rather remain babes in Christ, and hence they will be an easy target for Satan, and the men of this world who lie in wait and ready to deceive them.

Rom.8:12] Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

[13] For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

[14] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Therefore, being “carried about” goes after far more than Just the Saint having the misunderstanding about a few doctrinal Bible verses. When someone carries someone “about,” this means that they control them, and they are not of their own power, but they are at the will and mercy of another. And as Paul says this will be by every wind of doctrine, not just some, or many, but by “every” wind of doctrine. This is how the Saint will live his sanctified life in Christ, unless he renews his mind by the Word of God, and is transformed by the acknowledging of the truth of God. And the only way those Saints will be ‘protected,’ and no longer carried away, is by being perfected by the knowledge of the Son of God. And notice in the verses below, Paul says that there are those who “oppose themselves.” And they are those who are unwittingly becoming Satan’s ‘willful captive’ whether they know it or not. And as we see by opposing themselves, they actually ‘work together’ with him in putting themselves in captivity, but most importantly, while they are in Satan’s captivity, they are separated from our Father, which is functional death in Christ.

2nd Tim.2:25] In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

[26] And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Furthermore, in the verses below, we will be separated from our Father if we are taken captive by Satan and this world. Our Father desires to “receive us,” and be unto us God “the Father,” and that we be his sons and daughters. But in order to do this, we must “come out from among” them that are of the table of devils. And this is not talking about the unsaved but these verses are referring to them who are in christ. Notice the remedy so that God can receive us is coming out from among those who are walking according to the world? This is not how someone is saved from the debt and penalty of sin against them, but this refers to a sanctification unto holiness. But if this St. continues to allow himself to be carried about by the men of this world, he will not be able to ingest the meat doctrine of godliness that is designed to perfect him unto holiness. And notice it is God’s desire to dwell in US walk in US, and receive us. This is being subject unto him, and his will, and his word, and actually being the prisoner of the Lord, not captives of Satan.

2nd Cor. 6:16] And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

[17] Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

[18] And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

 Finally, being taken captive by Satan is being his ‘prisoner,’ and under his power, “at his will,” and subject unto the power of the air. And those who are opposing themselves, they are doing this by being “carried about by every wind of doctrine,” because those doctrines being spoken about is after another gospel, and a contrary doctrine that is designed to cause divisions, and doctrinal error and increase in more ungodliness. But this is as a ‘willing captive,’ notice in the verses above the Lord says, “wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate,” this would mean that the Saint does not have to be “taken captive,” he could “come out from among them.” And he does not have to be “children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine,” he could be “a perfect man,” but this done by the edifying of the Saint by the Word of God, not by the words of man’s wisdom.  There are many who “lie in wait to deceive,” and by their ‘winds of doctrine,’ the Saints will be hindered from the “knowledge of the Son of God.” The Apostle Paul has laud the foundation which is built upon the doctrine of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we are taught His selfless love, and we are taught that we can “have the mind of Christ” as sons. And it is by the “fiery darts of” those who lie in wait to deceive that have carried about those who are “children” in understanding. And whether they deceive those who are children in understanding ‘knowingly,’ or ‘unknowingly, they are doing the “will” of the devil to ‘possess,’ and to ‘ensnare’ the Saints of the Most High God “Possessor” of heaven and earth, and to make the Saints his captives, whether they themselves know it or not.

Col.1:[9] For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

[10] That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

[11] Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

  1. Thank Rod!

    The awesomeness of being a part of the same Body and therefore connected to the same Head; the mind of Christ.

    God’s desire is for His children to grow in the knowledge of His Word, maturing into the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13).

    Spiritual maturity protects believers from being “tossed to and fro” by false doctrines and the deceit of men (Ephesians 4:14).

    Those who choose to remain spiritually immature are vulnerable to Satan’s snares and the doctrines of the the Devil designed to rob us of our hope and calling.

    Instead, we, believers are called to renew our minds by the Word of God and walk in the Spirit, which leads to true sanctification and holiness (Romans 12:2; Romans 8:13-14).

    As you stated Paul warns that believers who oppose themselves by resisting spiritual growth by giving heed to seducing spirits can become captives of Satan, unwittingly aiding their own spiritual downfall (2 Timothy 2:25-26).

    God calls His people to come out from under the religious system created by the policy of evil and worldly influences and live separated lives, so He may fully receive us as His sons and daughters (2 Corinthians 6:17-18). As you stated This separation is not about salvation but about living a sanctified life pleasing to God.

    The foundation of faith is built on Christ (Pauls gospel) and His doctrine, not the wisdom of men (Colossians 1:9-10).

    By continuing to grow in spiritual understanding (what the will of the Lord is) in the knowledge of God, believers are strengthened to walk worthy of the Lord, bear fruit, and avoid the captivity of false teachings.

    This growth leads to the perfection of the saints, unity of the faith, and a life that reflects the mind of Christ, the Head.
