Apocalyptic Wildfires

All of the jaw-dropping imagery you have seen this week of the wildfires tearing through Los Angeles is precisely how you should picture the Tribulation.

I’m reminded of the first Trumpet Judgment.

Rev 8:7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up…

John describes hail and fire mingled with blood… cast upon the earth. Is John talking about hail raining upon the earth plus balls of fire mingled with blood or is he talking about hail that’s on fire and also mingled with blood?

I’d suggest it’s the latter because this is similar to the seventh plague Moses inflicted upon Pharoah in Exod. 9:22-28. The seventh plague was “hail, and fire mingled with the hail”.

What was the result in Moses’ day? The plants of the earth were smitten (vs. 31-32).

Bullinger would spend almost all the seven trumpets hilariously sharing how commentators of his time tried to spiritualize these judgments. They were saying, basically, “You can’t have a ball of ice with blood in it be on fire, so this has to be symbolic and it’s probably talking about X,Y, and Z.” Bullinger would then make the point that if you took the plagues in Egypt literally, why wouldn’t you take this literally, too? I totally agree.

I’d suggest that the reason this judgment is so similar to the seventh plague in Egypt is because God wants you to take this judgment literally just as you took that plague literally. Well, how can a ball of ice mingled with blood be on fire? Why not? You might remember in Eze 28:14 the Lord is talking to Satan and He says, “Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.” How can stones be on fire? Because He’s God, and He can do miracles that defies the laws of physics.

We have no reason to not take this judgment literally – balls of ice mingled with blood that are on fire that will literally rain down upon the entire Earth just as it did in Egypt in the days of Moses. The one variation of this judgment from the seventh plague in Egypt is that, now, there is blood that is mingled in those balls of ice that are on fire. Why the blood?

First, this is a fulfillment of prophecy. The Lord said in Joel 2:30, “I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath, blood and fire”.

Second, I’d suggest that the blood goes back to the souls under the altar. That blood is meant to signify that this is an answer to their prayers. This is judgment upon the world for His millions of martyred saints. Their blood is now literally on your heads. The fact that blood mingled with the fiery hail is cast upon the Earth would seem to say that “the blood of the martyred saints has now come back to haunt you in judgment.”

Picture this.

Around the globe hail coming down, hail that is on fire mingled with blood. What’s the result? “…and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.” Every blade of grass on planet Earth will burn up along with a third of all trees.

Every. Single. Blade. Of. Grass. On. Earth.

In the summertime, you can usually see a lot of grass around you, right? I’ll bet there are thousands of lawns and parks and fields around you – covered with grass. Just imagine all of that grass burning up at the same time plus a third of all trees.

Your world will be an apocalyptic nightmare just like Los Angeles.

John doesn’t tell us about all the homes and buildings that will undoubtedly go up in flames because of the burning grass and trees. But you know that will happen.

Entire cities will burn.

Do you know how much land there is on the Earth? The land on the earth is about 148,940,000 km., or about 57,491,000 miles which equates to about 36,794,240,000 acres. Let’s go with the acreage. Almost 37 billion acres. Every blade of grass that exists across all 37 billion acres burns up all at once. And a third of the trees burn up. A third of all trees on the Earth – gone.

And that is just the beginning of fire on Earth in the Tribulation. What follows this are seas and rivers turning to blood, the sun is smitten, a third of the moon goes dark, and a third of the stars fall. Then what follows is more fire and death – 200 Million Fiery Horses from Heaven.

Have you read Revelation? Have you seen the fires in L.A.? Did technology survive the fires in L.A.? Can people in L.A. still get WiFi? Watch TV? Access their computers? No? When the entire world burns like L.A., how is technology going to survive?

Technology today has nothing to do with the Mark of the Beast.
