Our Father is the Most High God; He is Wisdom, and so much more. (Prov. 8:12) We can step out from under fear and anything this world has to offer that creates anxiety or distress to be a servant. Recall who we have residing within us. So, what is there to fear? “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31)
Once we trust in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, we have peace, access to God, His resources, and a grace standing: “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Rom. 5:2) We’re quickened and have the Holy Spirit enabling the Word to dwell in us to live resurrection life! (Rom.8:11) As we learn to live our new identity in Christ (Romans 6-8), the ungodly, self-focused flesh goes into the background.
Paul wrote II Timothy with final teaching to empower Timothy to take the ministry: “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” (II Tim. 6-8) What does this teach us? At first, no one stood with Paul; all forsook him. However, Christ provides all things, and is our sufficiency: “Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.” (II Tim. 4:17)
Reflect: As Christ becomes our life, He works within us to have a fervent, durable faith to serve, similar to that of David as he faced Goliath. “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Cor. 15:57
