Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
From the moment Paul teaches the Saints about their sanctification unto holiness in Romans chapter 6, not once does Paul talk directly to, or about the outward man and flesh of the believer. Paul says that we are dead to sin, he says that we were baptized into Christ’s death, he says that we are buried with him by baptism into his death, he also says that we should walk in newness of life. We are also told that we are planted together in the likeness of His death, and that we are dead with Christ we are also told we can reckon ourselves to be dead indeed unto sin but alive unto God. These things might not seem as a reality to our outward man, and our flesh because we are still living on this earth, and those things mentioned are not something that our flesh can see, nor are we able to feel and experience those things taught unto us. But we are told to look at these things with the eyes of our inward man only, knowing that each one of these things benefit our inward man only, and this gospel and glory is for the eyes of the inner man only as well. But oftentimes, many Saints around the world assume that the relationship that they live unto the Father is a relationship that their outward man is able to receive hope, glory, love, the power of God, and deliverance, even though God has not promised to physically deliver us, nor to intervene in the life of our outward man.
Col 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Col 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Col 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Moreover, It is our Father’s desire that we understand the education being given unto us is designed to speak to our inner man only, and that we understand that the power, the glory, the love, the will, and the word of God is designed to work effectually within us, not ‘about us,’ or benefit our outward man in no way at all. And when Paul says that the “eyes” of our understanding be enlightened, he is talking about our inner man seeing the glory of an inheritance, and a calling that the strong in the faith, and the faithful and an adopted son are able to comprehend based upon the Spiritual mind to discern these things which are according to godliness. Also, the mature son ought to be doctrinally ‘able’ to ‘know’ “what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe.” This is not talking about because we are ‘just justified unto eternal life,’ that we ought to know that this is of a truth, and we are on our way to heavenly places. But God desires that the son knows ‘what is the hope’ of this inheritance and calling and what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us word. We are taught that we can operate upon this power and that our inheritance produces a power unto glory in the eyes of the Father, and comparable in His sight as when he raised Christ from the dead and sat Him at His own right hand in heavenly places as Ephesians chapter 1 verse 20 says.
Rom 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Rom 8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
Rom 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
Therefore, We are taught what to ‘set our affections’ unto, we are told what to ‘seek’ for, and we are taught what to “hope for,” but all these things are things that are outward man cannot see nor will he ever see, so this begs the question; why is it that many Christians ask, and pray to God for the things in which they ‘can see,’ or things that they could eventually see with the eyes of their flesh? We must understand that the education we are being given is designed to function, and work for the ‘inner man,’ and that the things in which our Father educates us, are the Spiritual things concerning His will, and His word, not our will, or for our sakes at all. But this is the reality that we are ‘beseeched’ to walk into, we are told that we could be a “living sacrifice,” and that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds and be no longer conformed to this world. All these things speak to a different ‘reality,’ and that reality belongs to the ‘life’ of our inner man alone. Our glory, our hope, our life, and our inheritance all concerns the reality of the inner man, this is how we are to ‘see’ the things that be of God. We are told in Colossians chapter 3 that we are risen “with Christ,” this is not a ‘untruth,’ but this is a true reality, but this only concerns our inner man. And all those things mentioned in Romans chapter 6 concerns the inner man as well, but not just that; the things that are written unto us by our Father for the education and establishment of the Saints all concern your inner man only. Only the Spiritual man can see this reality, your outward man has no understanding that this is taking place, and it is ‘far from him,’ he cannot ‘discern’ this unseen power, and it is “foolishness” unto him.
2Co 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
2Co 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
2Co 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Finally, the adopted son in Christ knows that not only is he a ‘child of God’ based upon being an “heir of God” because he is now in Christ, but he also understands the adoption as a “dear” son. And the son knows what crying “Abba Father” is all about, because he was educated in the doctrine which is according to godliness and knowing what it meant when the Lord Himself cried “Abba Father.” And this “inheritance” consists of more than just being “children” of God who could be “tossed to and fro,” but desiring to be “followers of God as dear children,” and walking in love as Christ also. And the Saint ought to understand that our Father desires that we ‘view’ His unseen power unto us, and that we also look with the eyes of our understanding unto this power, and this glory, knowing that the things which are seen are temporary but the things which are not seen are eternal. We are told that our inner man is renewed day by day by our Father, not the outward man, and God is not going to work this way toward our inner man, but then give a ‘renewing,’ or ‘partial glory’ unto the outward man when He has no provision to do so. We are told the “hope” of our outward man is to perish “day by day,” this is the reality that many Saints do not like to “see.” Paul desired that they ‘see what he sees,’ and that they ‘look’ not “on things after the outward appearance” but ‘look at’ all things with a renewed mind and look at all things as our Father would, through the eyes of a Son with the Father’s power and Spiritual unseen glory.
