Being Carnally minded means that you are letting the things of the Flesh rule your mind and not the things of the Spirit.
Romans 8:5-6 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
To be carnally minded is functional D .
Since Romans 1-5 handles the topic of soul salvation you should Know Romans 8 is talking to a person that is saved from the debt of their sins and is permanently In Christ. The topic is now service in the same way you want your children to love you on their own free will and serve you out of the love they have for you God also wants us not to be robots. That means God did not preprogram us to serve him, but God simply gives us the information on how to serve him. Then he tells us to study.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Then he tells us the divisions
Time Past Ephesians 2:11-12
Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
But Now Ephesians 2:13-14
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Ages to Come Eph 2:7
That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Paul gives us 2 different kinds of Carnal Christians. You have the Corinthians that live an open sinful life, and you have the Galatians That think to live unto God you need the expired Law program.
Galatians 3:19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
Both these Lifestyles will make you functionally dead to God.
Galatians 2:19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
Paul Laid a foundation of our edification for our inner man.
1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
Romans is that foundation book or the doctrine book.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Then we have our first reproof books of 1 & 2 Corinthians
When we leave Romans 5 you are saved a have assurance of salvation, but you do not know that you should live unto God. Romans 6 addresses this issue.
Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
So, in the book of Corinthians, we have saved people openly living in sin.
1 Corinthians 3:1-4
And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
Paul wanted to give the Corinthians some meat, they had so little built up in their inner man he couldn’t.
1 Corinthians 2:1-2 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
It is not a good thing to only have a home in heaven.
Think about this if you were planning a trip to Disney Park you would not be satisfied with saying I hope I get there but, you would want to know what rides you are going on, where you are going to sleep, what you are going to eat. When it comes to eternal life that never ends people throw all logic out and say I do not know what I will do in heaven I just hope I get there.
After the 2 books of reproof, we have our 1st book of correction.
When we leave Romans 6 you know you need to live unto God, but you do not know how. So, you use the school master (The Law) that was supposed to lead you to Christ but, never give you functional live. The end result is functional death. In Romans 7 we have Paul after he was saved but, not understanding he was not under the Law but under Grace. The result was functional death.
Romans 7:8-10 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. 9For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. 10And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
Most Galatian carnal Christians are moralizers saying, “You have to have proof that you are saved by a Changed lifestyle”. That is denying salvation by Grace alone and demanding works. The result is acting like a lost Person.
Romans 2:1-5 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Remember to walk in the flesh, does not mean someone is lost but, It means functional death to God or you won’t be able to serve God.
