As we read through Ephesians, we gain a clearer sense of the eternal realm, our heavenly calling or vocation, who we serve, and who we are in Christ. “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.” (Eph. 4:1) We do not belong to this earthly, temporal realm, though it is easy to be limited in thinking to what is seen, felt, and what we are told by the media. Remember, Satan is “the god of this world,” (II Cor. 4:4), and we are ambassadors in a foreign land, left here for a time to do God’s business. Who is behind the scenes in the design of our societies and governments today? Satan designed “the course of this world.” (Eph. 2:2) So we need to be careful how we proceed on God’s behalf or we could be pulled aside to actually work for Satan. Paul instructs: “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” (II Tim. 2:3-4)
What is God’s business? It’s not politics, government, or various affiliations, but rather, working alongside God in love as women of faith. Our attitude and service in the roles we play are key, being living sacrifices, ambassadors, servants, soldiers, mentors, teachers, encouragers, and declarers of Truth in whatever we’re doing. All things are to be done with charity unto “the beloved God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory” (Eph 1:6, 17); not unto men. (Col. 3:23)
Ephesians 2 reminds us we are undeserving, with a grievous, ungodly history as Gentiles, but also about some things our Lord has done. In the wonderous power of God, who was rich in mercy, loving and saving us, He “quickened us together with Christ… and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” (Eph. 2:5-6) Now we are NOT of this world, government, or society, though we temporarily live here. We are of His household: “In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth into an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” (Eph. 2:21-22) Avoid being swept up into Satan’s devices and overly focused, worried, off balance, or discouraged by what is seen around us. Paul reminds us that the god of this world (Satan) blinds and is darkness, yet God “hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us…’ even though “We are troubled on every side….” (II Cor 4:6-8) Our “inward man is renewed day by day,” though bombarded with distractions and lies assaulting us all around in what we see, hear, and experience. God calls this affliction light and momentary, but it works for us glory. Therefore, take heed: “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (II Cor. 4:18)
To Do: Be more aware of what you are minding. Avoid being tainted with the news and government or society issues to stay in the Word. Use your time and energy on spiritual things and your blessed hope.
