Do we keep the 10 commandments?
Some people will say that we are under the 10 Commandments. The truth is a Christian is not under the power of the 10 Commandments.
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
You might say this verse does not say “we are not under the 10 commandments” but look here at Romans 7:7
Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Obviously we know “thou shalt not covet” is part of the 10 commandments. The question we will have now is “if we are not under the 10 commandments, can we sin as much as we want?” God knew that question would be asked…
Romans 6:15 God forbid… The law was types and shadows of Jesus Christ
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
The law and the feast days were shadows or types of Christ or things to come.
The food laws make up a big part of the Law in Leviticus 11
God was showing through the food law that certain people were unclean.
Acts 10:9-16 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
Acts 10:28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
God only made some animals unclean to show some people were unclean.
Leviticus 20:25-26 If you say we are under the 10 commandments, you are saying we are unclean!
Ye shall therefore put difference between clean beasts and unclean, and between unclean fowls and clean: and ye shall not make your souls abominable by beast, or by fowl, or by any manner of living thing that creepeth on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean. 26And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.
God has changed certain people being unclean, and now there is no difference.
Romans 10:12 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
If we look at some of the laws, we can’t even do them today.
This next one would get you arrested.
Deuteronomy 21:18-21 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: 19Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; 20And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. 21And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.
Exodus 20:12
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
We should still obey this, But the punishment is not the same. Why did the Jews have to stay under the law after they got saved???
Deuteronomy 14:1 God seen that nation of Israel as children not son’s.
Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.
Galatians 4:1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be LORD of all;
God see’s a child and a servant as the same thing.
Mark shows Jesus as a servant.
Mark 1:12-13 Driveth
And immediately the spirit driveth him into the wilderness. 13And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
You have to driveth a child to do a job.
God treated the Jew like children under the law, but he is not going to do that forever.
Hosea 1:10-11 One day God will call Israel son’s, When is this going to happen???
Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God. 11Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
Romans 3:20 The 10 commandments was give so we can know what sin is.
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Luke shows Jesus as a Man or son
Luke 4:1 Led
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Galatians 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
How does the spirit lead us???
1 Corinthians 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
What does the spirit teach us???
1 Corinthians 2:12-13
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
Under the law Israel was told if they follow the law they will get.
Under Grace God teaches us about the things we have already been given to us freely by Grace.
An adult son honors his parents because he knows what they have done for him. Out of the love built up in their heart.
Romans 13:8-11
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. 9For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. 11And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
