In our spiritual battle, we are not wrestling “against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph. 6:12) It is impossible you say, well yes, it is if we attempt this in our own efforts and power. We learned that verse 10 teaches us about our resources: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” Our strength is to be “in the Lord” and “in the power of his might.” If we try to do it by our efforts or works, we will not fair well. We are to walk by faith as did Abraham. While he could not visualize how God would bring forth the seed line (Isaac) through him and his wife’s old, dead bodies, yet he “staggered not,” but trusted, confident God would perform it as He had promised.
We are to learn from Abraham. The Lord Jesus Christ is to be our only provision; God’s grace gospel is our power and wisdom. We can also be “fully persuaded” that His way is “exceeding abundantly” above what we can ask or think. (Eph. 3:20) As Abraham, we are to rest in Him: “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.” (Rom. 4:20-21)
Whether we have marital problems, homeschool issues, empty nest challenges, or health problems, we have the spiritual provisions needed for the battle to be victorious: “we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” (Rom. 8:37) The goal is not to be seen of men, attain a trophy, or for others to see you are spiritually minded. Our goal is to stand, confident to live as who we are in Christ. “Wherefore take unto you the whole amour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Further, this enables us to boldly be ambassadors going through sufferings: “And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.” (Eph. 6:13, 19) As we pray, meditating upon why we are left on earth, even through spiritual battles, we are to be His servants as ambassadors.
